wooplayer is a music and video player for language learners, made by INTROGENT PTE. LTD., a company registered in Singapore (UEN 202631279W). This page explains what the wooplayer apps and this website collect, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- Your songs, videos, lyrics, subtitles, saved words and liked lines stay on your device.
- You don't need to sign up. Each device gets a random account with no name or email.
- Text you ask the AI to translate or explain is passed to an AI service to get the answer. We don't store it.
- To time lyrics, a small copy of the song's sound is passed to a listening service. It isn't kept.
- We don't sell your data and there are no ads.
What stays on your device
wooplayer plays files that are already on your device. Your library, playlists, the lyrics and subtitles you add, translations, saved words, liked lines, the names you give songs and your settings are kept on your device. Your own AI keys, if you add any, are kept in your device's secure storage (the Keychain on a Mac, the Keystore on Android). Uninstalling the app removes them.
What reaches wooplayer's server, and why
- A random account for each device. It lets the free AI work without signing up, and holds no name, email or contact details.
- A record of each AI request: when it was made, what it was for (translating, looking up a word or timing lyrics), which service answered, how long it took, its size (words in and out, or seconds of sound) and what it cost. We use this to give everyone a fair daily allowance and to keep costs in check. It doesn't contain what you sent.
- Text you ask the AI about: lines to translate or explain, and the name of a song or video whose lyrics or subtitles you search for or translate. It passes through our server to the AI service and is not stored by us.
- Words you look up. When a word isn't in the dictionaries built into the app, the AI writes a dictionary entry for it: its meanings, reading and grammar. We keep that entry, with the two languages and a count of how often the word is looked up, so the next person who looks it up gets it at once. We never keep the line the word came from, or who looked it up.
- Sound, to time lyrics. When the app times a song's lyrics without Whisper on your Mac, it makes a small, low-quality copy of the song's sound and sends it to our server, which passes it to a listening service. The sound is used once and not kept.
What the app sends to other services directly
- Lyrics search: the song name and artist you search for go to LRCLIB, a free lyrics database.
- Subtitle search: a video's name, season and episode, and a fingerprint of the file (a short code calculated from it, not the file itself) go to OpenSubtitles.com.
- Your own AI key: if you use your own key with DeepSeek, Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI or another service, the text goes straight from your device to that service, under its own terms. wooplayer sees none of it.
This website
- The beta list: if you join it, we keep your email, the devices you use, the language you're learning and the language of the page. We use your email only to invite you and to tell you about wooplayer. Write to us to be removed.
- Cookies: one cookie remembers the language you chose for the site. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Visits: the site is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles requests and may log your IP address to keep the site working and secure.
Services we use
- Supabase: wooplayer's server, accounts and database (Singapore).
- Cloudflare: this website and the free songs and videos (worldwide).
- DeepSeek: the AI that translates, explains and writes dictionary entries (China).
- A computer run by wooplayer, Groq and OpenRouter: listening to songs to time lyrics (Groq and OpenRouter are in the United States).
These services handle the data only to provide their part of wooplayer. Some of them are in other countries than yours.
How long we keep it
Device accounts and their AI records are kept while the account is in use. Shared dictionary entries are kept while they're useful, and contain no personal data. Beta list entries are kept until wooplayer opens to everyone, or until you ask us to remove yours.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act, and the GDPR if you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also object to how we use it or ask for a copy. Because a device's account has no name or email, we may not be able to tell which account is yours; uninstalling the app stops it being used.
Children
wooplayer is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll also say so in the app.
